Poor Daddys Smokehouse BBQ
About This Spot
Stepping into Poor Daddys Smokehouse BBQ in the heart of Kermit, you’re immediately wrapped in a mellow, unpretentious warmth that speaks to the rhythms of a true Texas BBQ joint. The rustic, diner-style space invites you to slow down and settle into its easygoing vibe, where the hum of friendly chatter meets the occasional clink of a draft beer glass. It’s a place that doesn’t rush its moments, honoring that something special happens when food is given the time and care it deserves.
Here, the menu is less a list and more a map to comfort — where smoky ribs, tender brisket, and savory pulled pork come paired with familiar southern sides and creative twists like BBQ Frito Pie or peach cobbler ice cream. Each plate arrives like a personal invitation: generous, thoughtful, and just the right kind of satisfying. Whether you find yourself savoring a classic chopped brisket or sharing a three-meat combo among friends, there’s a grounded joy in every bite.
The pace is lively but never hectic, buoyed by servers who navigate the busy dining room with genuine care, making sure your visit feels both attended and unhurried. The atmosphere carries the easy authenticity of place—where the food fuels conversations and the friendly, no-frills setting makes it easy to feel at home, whether you’re new to town or a familiar face.
For those who appreciate a straightforward approach to BBQ made with heart and hospitality, Poor Daddys Smokehouse offers a subtly layered experience: one that stays with you not just in the flavors but in the comfortable, welcoming rhythm of near neighbors sharing a meal together.

The food was incredible. Our waitress (wish I had caught her name) was super friendly and made sure to check in on us at least twice while we were there. Food came out quickly. The atmosphere is chill and very inviting. 10 out of 10. Can't wait to go back!

Simple decor, rustic diner feel. But food is great, reasonably priced. You can mix and match what you want

This is what you expect when you go to a Texas BBQ. I’ve been here a couple times now. The ribs are spectacular. The brisket is tender and juicy. The service is exceptional although you might have to wait a bit because they’re busy but it’s well worth it as the ladies are personable and the food and drink comes quick once your order is in. If you want a suggestion outside of the meats I’d go with “The Big Papa” it’s a Texas Toast Grilled Cheese Sandwhich with creamy Mac and Cheese and your choice of Ham, Brisket or Old Fashioned. I haven’t had the ham but the Brisket or the Old Fashioned on this sandwich were amazing.

Delicious! Fantastic bbq with lots of choices. Fantastic service. Love this place, including the resident mascot doggie!

Food was excellent! The brisket was perfectly tender and great flavor. Mac and cheese amazing, thankful for a dressing other than ranch. Service was off the hook and they were super busy. Nice to have a BBQ place that you can be served and not moved through like cattle.

Impressive, being my 1st time I walked in with Brisket on my mind. My waitress immediately came and asked for my drink order. Mind you this is an extremely popular place. And was very crowded. But adequate seating. She brought my beverage quickly and then recommended the special. Chicken Fried Steak, 2 scoops of mashed potatoes. One with cream the brown gravy. And Mac n cheese. The chicken fry was literally outstanding. Not a thin cut of meat. But very tender with no visible mechanical tenderizing applied. I will eat here again. Just had lunch here for the 2nd time. As before it was very crowded again. Which states a lot about this place. But my addition this time is the staff. Friendly, Courteous, Professional, to sum it up they’re a bad ass team. My waitress Rachel was phenomenal. If I could hire this team in the field I could eliminate a sizable portion of my payroll. But not going to because this is a great kept secret. Don’t want anyone else now to know.

Awesome place!! Stopped in with a large group waiting out a lightning delay for a high school football game, and we are so glad we did! Food was great, atmosphere was so much fun, but the best part was our waitress Summer! She was fabulous, took great care of us! Highly recommend you stop here if you are in Kermit Tx., and be sure to ask for Summer!
